Auth0 Tenant Uses Default Directory Connection Instead of Application-Specific Connection

Overview

This article explains why an Auth0 application authenticates users with the tenant's default directory database connection, even when a different database connection is explicitly enabled for that specific application.

Applies To
  • Organizations
  • Connections
  • Default Directory
Cause

The tenant is configured with a default directory. When an application is set to accept only organization members and the login flow prompts for credentials, the tenant's default directory setting overrides the connection settings configured at the application level.

Solution

To resolve this issue, remove the default directory setting from the tenant settings under the General tab.

NOTE: Before proceeding, verify that no other applications in the tenant depend on the default directory setting.
