Configuration During Domain Change with Google

Overview

When a company wants to change its domain name from Google, it may wonder how this change will impact the users when logging in with a new domain.

This article presents the expected behavior that users should encounter once the domain name is changed.

Solution

In the Google Workspace connection, there is a setting named "Use ID instead of Email for Auth0 User ID"

If this was checked when creating the connection, by default, Auth0 maps user_id to email. Choosing this setting changes the behavior to map user_id to ID instead. This can only be defined on a new connection and can not be changed once set.

If the ID sent from the IDP does not change, there should be no impact because the user id inside Auth0 will be linked to the ID.

But if the IDP also changes the user ID once the domain is changed, a new user will be created when using SSO.
