"External Active User" Counts Discrepancy

Overview
This article explains a possible discrepancy found on the Quota Reports page, indicating there are more active users than shown on the Activity page of the Auth0 Dashboard.

Cause
The Active Users chart on the Activity page reflects the stats for daily active users. The quota page indicates monthly active users.
Solution
MAU is only counted for successful authentication attempts. A user is considered to be active in a given month if they have generated a log of user activity with its user_id, under one of the following events:
