Using the Verification Email (Code) Template

The Verification Email (Code) template is not intended for the standard email verification flow, which uses a magic link. This article explains the specific use cases for the code-based verification email.

• Adaptive Multifactor Authentication (MFA)

• Azure Active Directory (AD) / Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) Connections

The Verification Email (Code) template is used only in specific scenarios and is not a replacement for the default link-based email verification. The code-based verification is triggered in the following situations:

• Adaptive MFA: When Auth0 detects a heightened user risk level, it may send a code to verify the user's email address.
• Adaptive MFA with No Enrolled Factors: If a user is not enrolled in any MFA method, a code may be sent to their email for verification.
• Azure AD/ADFS Connections: This flow is used for email verification with Azure Active Directory (AD) or Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) connections.  Email Verification Flow for Azure AD/ADFS connections

For all other standard email verification processes, the magic link method is the only option.
