Overview

This article clarifies whether there is a way to set the groups claim of an access token and/or ID token.

Solution

"groups" is a reserved claim and cannot be set dynamically via extensibility. Please see Restricted Claims for more details.

There is no workaround for this, so if possible, a different custom claim will be necessary.
