Auth0 Identifier First + Biometrics Authentication Profile: Saved WebAuthn FIDO Device Biometrics Factor Not Found in Another Device

Overview

The Identifier First + Biometrics Authentication Profile leverages WebAuthn with FIDO Device Biometrics (webauthn-platform) MFA as a first factor.

This factor can be saved in various password managers (Google Password Manager, iCloud Keychain, 1Password, etc.) However, the saved factor cannot be found or used on a different device.

This knowledge article details the cause of this behavior.

Identifier First + Biometrics Authentication Profile

MFA

Applies To
  • Identifier First + Biometrics
  • WebAuthn with FIDO Device Biometrics
Cause

While the First + Biometrics Authentication Profile presents a passkey-like login experience, the WebAuthn with FIDO Device Biometrics is not a passkey that is typically synced across multiple devices.

At the time of writing (March 2026), the factor is not created as a Resident Key (Discoverable Credential). Therefore, it cannot be "discovered" in other devices.

Solution

A passkey can be synced and discoverable on other devices.

Migrating to the Identifier First Authentication Profile and Passkey is recommended.
