Difference Between fcpr and fcp Log Types

Overview

This article clarifies the functional differences between "fcpr" and "fcp" log types.

Applies To
  • Log Management
  • Password Reset
  • Database Action Scripts
Solution

The distinction between these log types depends on the stage of the password change process:

  • fcpr — Failed Change Password Request: This log indicates a failure during the request to send a password reset email. The user has not yet attempted to change the password and has not reached the password entry stage.

    • Example description: User does not exist.

  • fcp — Failed Change Password: This log indicates a failure during the actual password modification. This occurs after the reset email is successfully sent, specifically when the user submits a new password via the reset link or form.

    • Example description: Password is part of a known breached credential dataset.

NOTE: When Database Action Scripts are configured, an error in the Get User script can trigger both fcpr and fcp logs. Review the execution results of the Get User script to determine the source of the error.
