Configure User Account with Both Passkey and Password

Overview

This article provides steps to configure a user account with both a passkey and a password when passkeys are enabled in the tenant.

Solution

When passkeys are enabled within the tenant, a user can have both a passkey and a password configured for the account. The sign-up flow can be modified in two ways to enable both a passkey and a password.

Create the passkey first

  1. Select Sign up.

  1. Enter the email address and press Continue.

Click the Continue button

  1. Select Create a passkey.

  1. Save the passkey. The user is now logged in with a passkey.
  2. Log out of the account.
  3. When logging in again, select Can't log in to your account?.

  1. Enter the email address and select Continue. This action sends a Change Password email.

  1. Finish the change password flow to set the password.

 

Set up Email/Password first

  1. Select Sign up.
  2. Enter the email address and select Continue.
  3. Select Continue without passkeys during the sign-up flow.

Continue without passkeys 

  1. Set up the password and select Continue to complete the login.

Select continue on the create your account screen 

  1. Log out of the account.
  2. When logging in again, the user is prompted to Set up a passkey.

Both scenarios result in a user having a passkey and a password set for the account.
